History of Winart Pottery: In 1951, Sapulpa, Oklahoma couple, Clara Winchell and David Arter, started their pottery tableware company using a Tennessee clay and Texas talc mixture, molded and then fired at 2000 degrees. Taking the first three letters from their last names, Winart Pottery was on its way to a bustling business. A few years later they moved their operation to Miami, Oklahoma where they thrived until 1972. The Arters designed their own pieces, from salt and pepper shakers, pitchers, casseroles, ash trays to decorative pieces.
