Description
The design, color and glaze of this rare teapot are strikingly beautiful.The Clifton Company of Newark, New Jersey, founded by William Long, created this piece between 1905 and 1911, the six years they were in business. It stands about 4” tall with lid, and measures about 8” from handle to spout, about 10” from end of handle to spout, about 4” in diameter at base, and about 23” circumference at largest part of body. The soft crystalline glaze is subtly variegated and buttery smooth to the eye and the touch. The piece is marked on the base with double incisions for 271, double incisions for 271-24, one incision for “Clifton”, and an ink-stamped: “Clifton Pottery, Newark, NJ.” Excellent condition, with no cracks, chips, nicks, damage or repairs. Coming from a private collection. A piece to be treasured! Non-smoking household.
