    Description

Here are 2 excellent examples of Clifton Pottery's "Indian Ware" line produced from 1905-1911 in New Jersey, decorated in the style of various Native American communities.  In this case, this pitcher and matching mug are in Clifton's interpretation of the style of Native Americans who lived in the Little Colorado river area in Arizona.  The pieces have reddish brown terra cotta exteriors with geometric designs.  Interiors are glossy black glaze.
There is a small "Clifton" incised block letter mark on the mug, and a larger "Clifton" incised script mark on the pitcher.  The same design number 215 is on both pieces, as is the Clifton hand-carved arrow/circle or mountain/sun symbol, and both are hand-incised "Little Colorado Arizona".
Condition of both pieces is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or repairs on either piece. Very minor wear. As made, the mug's black interior is a patchy black (but fully glazed) near the rim. (See photo #12.)  The mug is 3.5"H x 5.5"W.  The pitcher is 9" wide at the handle and about 5" tall.
