Cliftwood Pottery Chocolate Drip Medium Snoozing Cat
In 1920 Matthew Rapp and his four sons opened Cliftwood Art Potteries, Inc. on the same property as the previous business. Production moved from the old utilitarian works to more decorative pieces. Matthew died in 1938, leaving his sons John, Carl, Lawrence, and Theodore to run the pottery. Although each son was very competent in different aspects of pottery making, none had the drive to continue the business without their father so they sold the pottery in 1940 to some businessmen from nearby Peoria.
Here we have an outstanding example of a majestic 8 1/2 inch long cat. The glaze on this piece is outstanding. The combination of colors along with the application resemble real fur. What an outstanding piece to display in your home.
Wonderful figure in that it is no cracks, no repairs. Does have one tiny glaze flake on ear and glaze roughness on back. Any imperfections are from the manufacturing process. The white spots are studio light reflections.
Authentic Cliftwood Pottery. All images are original and un-edited.
Measurements: Length: 8 1/2", Width:5 1/2" ID K2463c
