Description
Featured in this auction is a beautiful, vintage flower vase made by Peters & Reed. This vase is unmarked but is identified in the collector's guideSanford's Guide to Peters & Reed / The Zane Pottery Company
by Martha and Steve Sanford as the Nasturtium vase from the highly-desirable "Moss Aztec" line. This unusual piece has a rustic, "brushed" exterior finish to simulate the look of moss on stone. The reddish-brown clay color is said to represent Historic Aztec Indians, thereby giving the product line its name. There is a lustrous, pale-blue interior glaze to make the porous clay watertight. This vase has a sleek and beautifully-tapered design with the floral motif prominently encircling the vase. This vase is in excellent condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. I did find four very small glaze flakes in the finish exposing the red clay underneath with other random fleabites. I note these only for the sake of accuracy. There is also some very-minor scuffing on the piece from gentle use. However, this example is in excellent condition. This piece most likely dates to the 1920's. This heavy vase is approximately 10-1/4" tall, 4-1/2" wide at the top rim opening. It's very clean both inside and out. Check out all 10 photos! This exceptional find would show beautifully as a cabinet piece that would be perfect for any American art pottery or Peters & Reed Pottery collector. Check out my other pottery listings!
