  • Condition: This 1960 Chatty Cathy is in excellent to good condition. Her soft vinyl head is excellent with blonde rooted hair that maintains the original shine and short curled style. Her painted features are excellent with arched single stroke brows, freckles, and slightly open mouth showing two teeth. Her sleep eyes have molded eye lids and real lashes. Her hard plastic body has a cloth covered speaker and no manufacture mark indicating the authenticity of being one of the first Chatty dolls. Her vinyl arms have expertly carved hands and fingers. She stands without support. Her knock-kneed legs may be from a 4th edition Chatty that were made from a colored vinyl mix that turned white. Her upper body seams appear to have been repaired and have some gaps. Her voice string is missing.

    Description

    I read many articles describing the Chatty Cathy doll, and viewed pictures and videos. This research led to my  unprofessional opinion that this doll head, body, and arms were produced in 1960 as one of the first editions of Chatty Cathy and her legs are from a later version most likely a fourth edition doll that is known to have vinyl that turns white. I wish I knew why this Chatty needed new legs, but I do not know her story. In general, with her original "Nursery School" dress and half slip, and her lovely face and hair, this Chatty Cathy would be an interesting and lovely addition to a collection.
    Her underwear and shoes are new, and I will include the underwear that came with her. Sorry for the lengthy description.
