Description
This monstrous 15.5" RumRill vase was made at the end of the RumRill era in 1942 when Gonder took over production. Note the all black bottom inscribed RumRill mark and the shape number 503 USA. This is an incredibly rare piece that is so highly detailed. Even the fish scales and ocean waves are intricately detailed. The soft matte pastel colors are gorgeous shades of ice blue, green, gray, gold, brown and turquoise. The interior is white at the top blending to a pink further down.As you can see from the pics, this piece is damaged. It was purchased that way many years ago. We never had it restored, but as you can see, there is a 4" crack at the very top that goes over to the other side and continues 5 more inches onto the other side.
The entire one half of the top of the vase looks like it broke off at one time and it is being held together now with a piece of old tape.
When it is displayed, you really don't see the cracks and it's still so impressive-looking.
It is extremely heavy.
Remarkably, there is no other damage to the piece. There are pinhole glaze misses, but these were produced at the factory and is to be expected of any of these early RumRill pieces. Please
