Wannopee Art Pottery Vase or JarDescription and Item Information
Up for sale is this rare, old Wannopee pottery vase, jar, or humidor. Please excuse any glare in the photos. If this is a jar or humidor, then the lid is no longer present. This pot has a blended high glaze. It stands approximately 4 7/8 inches tall, and it has a maximum width of about 5 1/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 11.6 ounces. This would be an uncommon addition to a collection of American art pottery.
Identification
This piece is marked beneath, as shown, "WANNOPEE 7." Wannopee Pottery was located in New Milford, Connecticut, and the company was in operation from 1892 to 1903.
Condition
This piece looks good overall, with light wear and fine, unstained crazing. It may be lacking a lid. There are scattered scratches here or there. To the side, there is a tiny (1/16 inch) glaze flake / contact pit. Excess glaze was ground from the base. As made, there are tiny grinding flakes to the basal side edges that are associated with this process. Also as made, there are tripod kiln stilt marks beneath, with a factory-made stilt pull chip to one of these areas. There is a tight 1/8 inch glaze-filled firing fissure to the rim, and there are scattered, tiny glaze dimples, as made. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
