Description
Rosemeade Pottery (Wahpeton ND 1940-61) used local clays in the making of numerous pieces, many of animals & plants native to that area. This set of turkeys made as creamer, sugar, salt & pepper are finished in very realistic detail & glaze colors. While the individual pieces can be found, it is hard to find all 4 pieces together. Descriptions of each piece:
*The sugar bowl is the largest piece - about 4-1/2 inches tall, about 3-1/4 inches wide, & 4-1/2 inches front to back. The top opening is about 2-3/4 inches in diameter & the bottom foot is almost 2-3/4 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing.
*The creamer is about 4 inches tall, about 2-1/2 inches wide, & 6 inches front to back. The top opening is about 2-1/4 inches in diameter & the bottom foot is about 2-1/4 inches in diameter. It is in good condition - no hairlines or crazing - but it does have a chip at the tip of the top edge of the beak where someone got too close to their cup when pouring their cream - as shown in the last photo.
* The fat turkey salt is about 3 inches tall, about 2-1/2 inches wide, & 3 inches front to back. The cork stopper is still in the bottom. It is in very good condition - no hairlines or crazing - but it does have a glaze chip between the shaker holes on his chest that may have been done at the factory when the holes were drilled.
* The thin turkey pepper is about 3 inches tall, about 1-1/2 inches wide, & 3-1/2 inches front to back. The cork stopper is still in the bottom. It is in excellent condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing.
None of these pieces still retain the Rosemeade labels or have the Rosemeade inkstamp on the bottom, but are shown in Rosemeade reference books & have the dark yellow Rosemeade clay & glaze colors.
