hand tooled in relief. It measures 8 1/8 inches tall and 5 7/8 inches in diameter at the widest. It’s had a tough life, there is repair to a 1” rim chip and numerous leaf edge chips plus a tight hairline but no firing flaws. Die-stamped WJW. Walley. Vases with carved and tooled decoration are rare. He used a wide variety of glazes, more than the Grueby or Merrimac Potteries to whom his work is often compared. The pottery was located in West Sterling Massachusetts where he began in 1898, making everything by hand. He died in 1919. A beahtuful piece of New England Arts & Crafts era art pottery.
